I prayed for dawn, and dawn was thus received; I saw the morning’s basin gently tipped And spilled upon the blossom, splashed on leaves Where dew-beads born of mist had, silent, dripped; But dawn will pass, as I will pass, and all Shall pass in time, when mortal sense Is shrouded in the dusk of mourning halls, And off shall slough the coil with a wince – My coil first, I pray, that I may have The darkness once again, and sightless see The shadow-veiled circumference of love, The twice-eclipsed circumference of me, Where I, and Love, shall trace the dawn’s depart To consubstantial shadows of the heart.
