April came today and told me winter was over; she was here to stay. When she laughed, spring breath tickled my face and I shivered while the flowers bloomed.
April looked my way and told me the rain would end. Once the ground had drunk its fill it would erupt with the colour we remembered. The world would be green as far as I could see.
April held my hand and told me this promise would last. In place of ice there would be smiles. Summer would be long and all the bugs would buzz in some other lover’s country.
April kissed my cheek and told me it was lovers’ season. Soon there would be weddings and children to worry about but we would always have springtime, when the breeze was fresh and the air didn’t suffocate us.
April skipped away and told me the chlorophyll wasn’t gone, just sleeping, and she would be back. She promised. I am April’s fool.

Notes
I asked my friend for a poetry suggestion and he said April Fool's Day. This isn't what I expected to come up with, but I went with it.
